Welcome to my ePortfolio. Here you will find information about my interests, thoughts and progress as I pursue my degree in Visual Arts & Design.

About Me

I’ve been creating my whole life, many different mediums but always creating.

I got into drawing at a fairly early age but didn’t become extremely interested in art until around seventh grade. I began drawing much more often than I had done before. It was mostly abstract designs, inspired by my older brother’s drawings. I followed this path for a short time and learning the basics of various forms of art throughout middle school and high school. These included various forms of drawing techniques and styles. I also learned about printing techniques, photography, sculpting, drafting and even sewing techniques and design. I also took various courses focusing on art history as well as creative thinking. Also during this time, I was experimenting with digital photo manipulation, which became my main focus after high school.

For the last decade or so I have been learning, adapting and developing a unique style of digital art. At the same time also exploring, creating and working with advertisement and marketing. I have many years of experience and skills directly related to graphics design. I’ve spent several years printing with both silk-screen and offset presses. Art, design and print are a huge part of my passion for pursuing a career in graphics design and visual arts.

Besides art, I also have a huge appreciation of music. I collect records and I DJ in my free time. I also enjoy skill-toys such as Astrojax that require an understanding of physics. This is called Connected Juggling, as seen here to your left. I also spend a lot of time learning through documentaries and other educational shows.

My Goals

I chose my major of Visual Art & Design (AAS) with an emphasis on Design because I feel the courses will teach me more about the specific concepts I’ve studied and implemented in the past. I am not sure what direction I will chose as school ends and life moves on. I am interested in many types of design but I feel that I will most likely take a direction that allows me to create t-shirt designs and even print them myself. Something I have wanted to do for a very long time. My art has also been connected to music for a long time and I will probably maintain that connection, creating event fliers or album artwork and other forms of promotional design.

I also plan to learn more techniques to publish designs over many mediums. I already have a fairly advanced knowledge of Photoshop, Typography and Printing. I also feel that I have fairly good understanding of design as viewed by many conceptual ideas. However my illustration and web design techniques are not quite up to standard and want to improve my knowledge and skills regarding these. I feel that taking these courses and fine tuning my knowledge in these areas will allow me to become a much better artist, designer and, a more skilled professional.

Another goal is to become a more recognized artist and have more of my work in galleries. This would be along the lines of digital art canvas prints. But also perhaps other techniques as well, as I am relearning drawing techniques that are providing me with an insight into design and art that I had all but forgotten since I graduated high school.

Some of my short term goals include overcoming my shyness and rather introverted personality by immersing myself in culture and society. I am meeting new people and learning alongside them creating bonds in some of these relationships and in others simply a mutual respect. This is a very challenging thing for me to do but this challenge is something that can help me grow personally and socially.
